Lamprais

Over the centuries, this tiny island has been influenced by a number of different cultures, out of which the most evident is the Dutch Burgher community. Lamprais is a combination of meat, rice, sambol and eggplant curry wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed. The rice is initially cooked with meat stock.

Hoppers

Hoppers are everyone’s favourite! The batter is made from a fermented concoction of rice flour, coconut milk and coconut water. Hoppers can either be sweet or savoury, depending on what you’re craving. Make sure you try an egg hopper, which is when an egg is cracked into the bowl-shaped pancake. Hoppers are accompanied by lunu miris, a sambal of onions, chillies, lime juice and salt.

Kiribath

Kiribath is a breakfast delicacy in Sri Lanka. Rice cooked in thick coconut milk, kiribath is also often served during special and auspicious occasions.

Fish curry

Seafood plays an important role in Sri Lankan cuisine and fish curry is one of the beloved dishes among fellow Lankans. A visit to some of the best restaurants in Colombo will prove this theory!

Afternoon Tea

Tea time in Sri Lanka is a rather important affair. You can either splurge on a tea experience or opt for a simpler tea time snack. If you’re looking for great afternoon tea venues, Rare at Residence is a great choice!
