Traditional Maldives Cuisines
Best Maldivian Dishes to Eat

At first sight, all Maldivian food might look similar because it’s mostly seafood, but every dish has its own unique flavour and ingredient.

Highly influenced by the Kerala cuisine in India and the Sri Lankan cuisine, the Maldivian food is spicy, authentic and uses a lot of colourful spices too. The main ingredients in the dishes are coconut, dish and rice and the others include chillies, curry leaves and aromatic spices.

The must try dishes when visiting Maldives are Banbukeylu harisa, Bis keemiya, Hedhika, Garudiya, Mashuni, Thelui mas and Kavaabu. These dishes are made with fish, lemon juice, coconut milk and chilli. Another staple food there is Roshi, a type of flatbread made with pieces of coconut flakes in between. Dried fish pickle is a side that goes well with flat bread or any type of bread for that matter and is loved by the locals.

Romantic dining in Maldives is a must if you are travelling with your loved one, and places like the Naladhu Private Island Maldives provide private beach spots for a memorable evening under the stars. Also, remember that Maldives is an Islamic country, and so, you won’t find alcohol in places other than the tourist spots and resorts.
