Not surprisingly, fish dishes are popular here including traditional culinary creations like Kulhimas; it features spiced tuna which is mixed and cooked in a blended paste made from ingredients like grated coconut, hot peppers, onions, ginger, cardamom, and curry leaves. Seafood is popular in the Maldives, with resorts like OBLU Xperience Ailafushi offering such diverse items to choose from.

While you can enjoy a diverse array of main dishes at the best Maldives all-inclusive resorts, don’t forget to also sample traditional local snacks, generally known as Hedhikaa. This term covers several types of yummy snacks that are popular amongst the locals; these include Gulha, bite-sized dumplings with tuna filling, Kulhi Boakibaa which are spicy fish cakes and Biskeemiyaa, a deep-fried treat made with veggies and egg.

Mas Huni

Breakfasts in the Maldives wouldn’t be complete without some Mas Huni which is another tuna fish-based dish that is easy to make as well. Apart from fresh shredded tuna, scraped coconut, chillies and onion are also mixed in along with some lime. Interestingly, you also get other versions made with boiled pumpkin or butternut squash.

Saagu Bondibai

Sago pudding is locally known as Saagu Bondibai and this delicious dessert is bound to become one of your new favourites! Sago is made from the cores of tropical palm stems which are spongy in texture when cooked; added to the mix are ingredients such as condensed milk, cardamom, coconut milk and rose essence to create a heavenly combination.
