Street Food in Beijing
always a treat
The Chinese capital Beijing is recognised for its many attractions, including attractive shopping opportunities as well as numerous historical and cultural monuments. Another well-known local attraction is the delectable food on offer, with many of China’s many culinary styles represented in the local restaurants, cafes and, of course, the street food vendors.
The street food in Beijing is varied, featuring a selection of breads, rice, noodles, meats, vegetables and so on. As people from many distant parts of the vast Chinese nation have settled down in the capital, it is not surprising that many of their specialty snacks may be enjoyed on the streets of the city.
Stuffed steamed buns, known as baozi are very popular in Beijing just as they are in other parts of China. You will see them wreathed in steam in shop fronts and you can enjoy them with a wide selection of fillings such as chicken, pork, ginger beef, diced carrots and tofu, spiced mushrooms and more.
Another option is the special nang bread which originates from the Muslim Uighur people. This warm, soft and salty bread is especially delicious with the complementary mutton. Many of the small shops offering this specialty possess their own individual ovens, thereby providing the freshest bread imaginable.
Tea eggs are as popular in the capital as they are in many other parts of China. This is an unpretentious but still delicious treat, consisting simply of eggs immersed and boiled within a container of tea. Unfussy and inexpensive, this is a local favourite.
Not to be missed is the delectable lamb kebabs which are spiced and roasted on sticks. This inimitable specialty is thought to have been introduced by the Mongols, invaders who made the city their capital centuries ago.
If you prefer a sweet delicacy make it a point to try out the well-liked sesame seed cake, which may be stuffed with a variety of ingredients such as pineapple, strawberry jam and even mung bean paste.
If you are a visitor seeking convenient serviced apartment in Beijing an appealing choice would be the Somerset Grand Fortune Garden Beijing. These comfortable service apartments Beijing offers provide fine accommodation and attentive hospitality.
