If you are planning to pay a visit to Sri Lanka, the one thing that you should never worry about is running out of options for a good meal. The variety of Sri Lankan cuisine is such that you will actually need to spend a whole vacation tasting food in different parts of the country if you do not want to miss out on any of it. The Southern part of Sri Lanka is a good starting point where you can enjoy delicious Sri Lankan food while also enjoying the sun, the beach, and the vivacious sea. If you go through a list of Bentota restaurants, you can find some very attractive restaurants in hotels such as AVANI Bentota Resort & Spa.

The prime member and all time favorite of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine is always rice, coming in the form of red rice, white rice, fried rice or even milk rice. Named after this important member of the buffet item, the main meal of a typical Sri Lankan family is referred to as ‘Rice and Curry’. This is inclusive of rice as the main dish and several vegetable or meat dishes prepared with thin gravy to accompany it. Most famous is the dhal curry, which is also a permanent member of the meal plan. When it comes to spices and condiments, Sri Lankan cooks are rather generous, making the food strongly flavored and more suitable for the spicy eaters. Many spices like cinnamon and black pepper are originally grown in Sri Lanka and exported worldwide. A special side dish made of scraped coconut and red chili, known as ‘Pol Sambal’ is also very common in all parts of the country. As much as they love spice, Sri Lankans are known to have a sweet tooth when it comes to desserts and sweet courses.
