Mee goreng mamak

This is a Muslim Indian dish with everybody’s favourite ingredients which include meat/chicken, yellow noodles, shrimp, eggs, vegetables and soy sauce. The ingredients sound simple enough to prepare at home, but you’ll just not get that authentic taste anywhere other than at the Malaysian hawker stalls.

Apam balik

Of all the sweet treats out there, this is the one that keeps evolving with different versions from different hawkers. This is a crispy sugary pancake stuffed with omelette, peanuts and sometimes corn.

Nasi kerabu

This is a Malaysian original coming from the northern region of Kelantan. The rice if cooked with special telang flowers giving it a unique colour. It is served with fried coconut, bean sprouts and a fish sauce. You can find it at restaurants in Bukit Bintang.

Nasi lemak
