An introduction to Japanese food culture
The basics!
Japanese cuisine is one of the most found cuisines on a global scale. But, when visiting Japan, the food experience is much more authentic, and the basics of Japanese cuisine are what you’ll need to get you through this culinary journey.
Rice
Rice is a staple in Japan and is called “gohan”. Rice is served in many ways on this island and some of the most interesting dishes would be rice cakes called “mochi” and gohan with seafood and vegetable. Apart from cooked rice, senbei (rice crackers) and sake (rice wine) are also products of rice.
Udon & Soba
Udon noodles are made from wheat flour and are boiled in broth. It is served hot or sometimes cold according to the seasons. Soba noodles are usually served cold and are made from buckwheat. These noodles are served with vegetables, raw egg or meat.
Ramen
The most loved dish in Japanese cuisine is undoubtedly Ramen! This is a dish made with egg noodles boiled in broth and served with meat like roast pork and vegetables like sweet corn and bean sprouts. Each region has its own variation too, so, head out from your Fukuoka accommodation to the ramen shop close by and try it out.
Seafood & meat
As Japan is an island, the locals take great pride in their seafood dishes. Seafood is eaten raw in sushi or sashimi and grilled. When it comes to meats, grilled chicken, beef rice bowls and barbeque are quite popular here at restaurants near lyf Tenjin Fukuoka.
