Local Cuisines of Maldives- savour an authentic Maldivian meal

The island of Maldives located in the Indian Ocean is influenced by surrounding countries such as Sri Lanka and India. A traditional Maldivian meal always consists of fish and rice. A country that has an abundant produce of fish, base their meals on the local produce as well as coconuts, where a typical Maldivian curry is cooked with either grated coconut or coconut milk.

Travellers seeking for accommodation could consider a stay at one of the renowned resorts Maldives have to offer such as Niyama Maldives where you will be able to indulge in scrumptious Maldivian cuisines as well as base your excursions to various restaurants and street markets that offer range of authentic Maldivian delicacies. Visitors to the country could taste delightful cuisines that are prepared using local produce such as a dish of Kulhi boakibba a Maldivian fish cake and Mas huni, a tuna and coconut mix which is a delicacy loved by all Maldivians and a must try out when in the country. Don’t forget to taste Handulu Bondibai, a sweetened sticky rice desert which can also be prepared using breadfruit or sago. A dish of garudhiya, a delicacy prepared using raw tuna is enjoyed by Maldivians almost daily.
