When in Nashville there is more to savour than just the sites, the sounds are perhaps what draws the crowds to this part of the world. The Bluebird Café in Tennessee which began in 1982 is now a famous landmark in the city to catch a glimpse of tomorrow’s stars.

Playing acoustic and original country music, performers from all walks flock to air their own creations. Not all the performers that pass through these halls are well known faces, some are even writers, having their pieces performed by others.

Although known as a café it has become more famous for the music that plays there through out the week. The atmosphere is likened to that of a listening room, and while performers take the stage, spectators are expected to remain silent, so much so that the cafes fondly known slogan is ‘shhh’. But with that said guests could look forward to some scrumptious food served here as well.

Although the venue initially started out as a gourmet restaurant, today, music comes first and food second, although Amy Kurland who started the café intended it to be the other way around. She wanted patrons to enjoy their meals with some live music. However, all that changed when she introduced a stage into the café. Since then many big names have been featured on the Bluebird Café’s stage and many aspiring song writers and performers have graced its stage in the hope that potential recording labels would get wind of their performances.

Such was the fate of singer Kathy Mattea who started performing back in 1983 for just a few months and landed a record deal. She was the first potential star to be identified and she certainly hasn’t been the last, she still visits the place even, today. The café’s stage has played host to greats like Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney and has seen even the likes of Taylor Swift.

New performers are auditioned before they perform, and those who have made it through the auditions could be heard on Sundays. The performance on Sunday’s is free, and spending an evening at the Bluebird is to be a part of an amazing experience. The place has grown in popularity that it has seen many a newspaper and TV screen, and quite recently made it into a movie as well. The Bluebird was the setting for the film ‘Thing Called Love’ starring Sandra Bullock.

After some authentic local cuisine and sampling the town’s hottest talent, there leaves only room to experience some local hospitality at a typical Nashville hotel. One such as the Millennium Maxwell House Nashville offers guests a unique southern setting, and at the same time it’s also the only music themed hotel. Its location is in close proximity to the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as popular shopping centres. In addition, the hotel showcases some amazing music memorabilia on display.
