Kottu Rotti is a dish Sri Lankans can’t have enough of. It’s meaty, spicy and tastes a lot better with a cold glass of beer.

Origin.
Kottu Rotti in Tamil means chopped rotti and it is said to have originated from Sri Lanka although some claim its roots to be from South India.

Where to find it
This is a local favourite, thus can be found in every street corner in every part of the country. Kottu Rotti is also included in menus of high end hotels and restaurants in Mount Lavinia, Colombo, Galle and Kandy. Most hotels such as Berjaya Hotel Colombo, tend to add an elegant twist to it with the use of exotic ingredients and expert culinary skills.

Ingredients
This is often made with some kind of meat like chicken, beef, goat or just eggs. Cut up parota rotis, chopped chilies, white onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, curry leaves, salt and pepper, oil and about 2 to 3 eggs are all that takes to make this mouthwatering dish. The ingredients are mixed well and are served hot.

Different types
Kottu Rotti is often categorised based on the types of meat used and the rest the ingredients remain consistent. However, cheese Kottu is new variety which has reached popularity.
