Dining in Chilaw – Gastronomic Adventures in Sri Lanka!

When it comes to experiencing a foreign culture, trying out local cuisine is an integral part that should not be missed on any holiday abroad. Sri Lanka is no exception and when travelling to its North West coast, make sure to stop by at the enchanting town of Chilaw where you can introduce your taste buds to some delectable local cuisine. Chilaw restaurants serve up a delectable array of dishes worth trying, while you also have the option of sampling a wider range of cuisine at local resorts such as Anantaya Resort & Spa Chilaw which has its own dining venue.

No dining adventure in Chilaw is complete without trying the seafood on offer. Being by the coast means that you have the opportunity to sample freshly caught seafood be it succulent crabs, juicy shrimp, plump lobster or grilled fish. Marinated to perfection and prepared using local spices, these dishes offer a whole new taste sensation. If you are not that keen on exotic gastronomy, have no fear! Western dishes are also prepared, especially at resort and hotel restaurants, including more traditional seafood dishes. A great place to dine would be at a restaurant by the beach or overlooking the ocean, providing an ideal setting in which to enjoy a family meal or even a romantic dinner.

For the more adventurous, there is also an opportunity to try dishes at one of the town’s eateries or restaurants. Many of these places provide great budget options since the food here is relatively cheaper. Rice and curry dishes are ever present on the menu and you can except to find more spicier cuisine here since they cater to locals who have a high tolerance for spices that bring out the fiery goodness in meats and vegetables!

One will also find some bars in Chilaw where one can unwind with family and friends and enjoy some light snacks along with delicious cocktails and wines. Those that provide views of the sunset are particular worth trying out, setting the mood for some foodie adventures at night.
