This is the staple diet of the nation and is a “must try”. There are different varieties of rice, which are served with curries that consist various meats and / or vegetables. Scintillating seafood

 

Being an island nation, Sri Lanka serves lots of yummy seafood dishes too. You can find everything from curry to deep-fried fish, crab, lobster or shrimp, prepared with a typically local flavour. From coastal dining venues to some of the top restaurants in Colombo, seafood is invariably on the menu and worth trying.

 

Kottu Roti forever!

 

Ask most Sri Lankans about kottu roti, and you are bound to ignite a craving for this immensely popular dish. Featuring cut up pieces of godhamba roti mixed with a variety of veggies, spices and meats, “kothu” is a night-time favourite. Of course, watching the process of it being made which involves a lot of rhythmic chopping is part of the experience.

 

Curd and Treacle

 

A traditional way to end a meal is to have fresh curd made usually from buffalo milk served with an oozing topping of treacle from the sap of the kitul palm; the combination of slightly sour curd and sweet treacle is heavenly, to say the least!
